辽宁中医药大学（原辽宁中医学院）创建于1958年，是辽宁省委批准，由辽宁省中医进修学校（1955年）、辽宁省中医医院（1956年）合并组建的中医药本科院校。2000年，辽宁卫生职工医学院并入我校。2006年经教育部批准，学校更名为“辽宁中医药大学”。2013年经辽宁省批准，学校增具“辽宁省中医药科学院”名称。2019年批准为“辽宁省中医药产业技术创新研究院”。
建校60余年来，辽宁中医药大学建成了“一校三区”的发展格局，主校区位于辽宁省会城市沈阳，两个分校区分别位于滨城大连和药都本溪，占地面积1040余亩。学校设置医、理、工、管、文、法等6个学科门类，24个本科专业，现有在校生万余人，下设18个学院、4所直属附属医院、1个教学部、2个教学实验中心、1个实验动物中心、2所研究院、1所科学院、2所图书馆、5所博物馆，是辽宁省唯一一所培养中医、中药、针灸推拿、中西医临床医学、高级护理和医学相关类人才的高等院校，是国家中西部高校基础能力建设工程高校。

学校有1个国家地方联合工程实验室、1个教育部重点实验室、1个国家中医临床研究基地、3个国家药物临床试验机构、3个国家中医药管理局重点研究室、11个国家中医药管理局科研三级实验室、1个全国科普教育基地、1个省级人文社会科学重点研究基地、29个省级重点实验室、工程中心及工程实验室、1个辽宁省高等学校重大科技平台、2个辽宁省临床医学研究中心，是辽宁省中医药健康产业校企联盟牵头单位、辽宁省科协科技成果转化服务基地、全国中医药文献检索辽宁分中心。“十三五”以来，学校新增各类科研项目661项，其中，国家级项目66项，省级项目271项；发表学术论文10910篇；出版著作263部。学校主办3种中医药学术期刊，其中《中华中医药学刊》是中国中文核心期刊、中国科技核心期刊，《辽宁中医杂志》《辽宁中医药大学学报》是中国科技核心期刊。在中医药科技期刊分级目录中，《中华中医药学刊》位列T1级，《辽宁中医杂志》《辽宁中医药大学学报》位列T2级。
学校是教育部确定的首批有条件接收外国留学生、港澳台学生的高等院校之一，是首批国家中医药服务出口基地，是中国-中东欧中医药国际合作基地、中国-泰国中医药中心、中国•辽宁-泰国中医药合作基地、在斯洛伐克医科大学设有中医孔子课堂，与新西兰Ara坎特伯雷理工学院合作举办护理学专业本科教育项目。学校具有中国国家政府留学生奖学金招生院校资格，是国家首批“丝绸之路”中国政府奖学金项目委托培养高校，是招收香港中学文凭考试生、招收澳门保送生、招收台湾学测生的高校，具有孔子学院奖学金接收院校资质，是辽宁省政府留学生博士奖学金招生院校。学校立足亚洲，面向欧美，拓展非洲，放眼全球，广泛开展国际交流与合作，先后与韩国、新加坡、俄罗斯、英国、美国、加拿大、泰国、澳大利亚、南非、斯洛伐克等35个国家和地区的大学、医疗机构或学术团体建立合作关系。学校一直致力于开展多种形式的国际学术合作、医疗合作和教育合作，并多次主办或承办国际会议。
学校四所直属附属医院分别增具辽宁省中医医院、辽宁省中医药研究院、辽宁省肛肠医院、辽宁省中西医结合医院名称，共有11个国家卫生部临床重点专科、7个国家区域中医（专科）诊疗中心、21个国家中医药管理局重点专科、43个省重点专科，有6所非直属附属医院、98个临床教学基地。

Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine grew out of Liaoning Further Education School of Traditional Chinese Medicine (1955) and Liaoning Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine (1956). In 1958, with the approval of The CPC Liaoning Provincial Committee, Liaoning College of Traditional Chinese Medicine was founded and recruited its first group of TCM students. In 2006, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the college changed its name into Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 2013, with the approval of Liaoning Provincial Government, LNUTCM added the new title of “Liaoning Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine”.
With over 60 years of development, LNUTCM has formed “One University, Three Campuses”. the main campus located in Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning Province, and two branch campuses respectively in the seaside city—Dalian and renowned Chinese Medicine Capital—Benxi, which in total covers over 1040 mu. LNUTCM has six disciplines, namely Medicine, Science, Engineering, Management, Arts and Law, 24 undergraduate programs with over 10,000 enrolled students. In LNUTCM, there are 18 colleges and schools, 4 direct affiliated hospitals, 1 teaching department, 2 experimental teaching centers, 1 animal lab center, 3 research institutes, 2 libraries, 1 academy of sciences and 5 museums. LNUTCM is the only institution of higher learning in Liaoning Province providing professional trainings and education in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Traditional Chinese Pharmacology, Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Chinese Massage, Integration of TCM and Western Medicine in Clinical Practice, Senior Nursing and other medical related disciplines. LNUTCM ranks in National Basic Ability Construction Project of Western and Central China.

All TCM-related main disciplines ranked top in Liaoning province, with 1 national-level key discipline, 4 provincial higher-institution first-class disciplines, 3 featured provincial higher-institution first-class disciplines, 6 provincial disciplines in the project of “Constructing Characteristic Disciplines for Upgrading the Competitiveness of the Institutions of Higher Education”, 7 provincial higher-institution key disciplines, 26 national-level key TCM disciplines approved by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 21 provincial key TCM disciplines, 3 post-doctoral research centers, 3 first-class disciplines authorized to grant doctorate degrees, 16 second-class disciplines authorized to grant doctorate degrees, 3 first-class disciplines authorized to grant master’s degrees, 19 second-class disciplines authorized to grant master degrees, 1 discipline authorized to grant professional doctorate degrees, and 3 disciplines authorized to grant professional master degrees.

LNUTCM is also the chief-editor institution for 111 national, industrial and innovative teaching planned textbooks, including 34 planned textbooks for “The Thirteenth Five-year Plan” of TCM industry, 8 provincial planned textbooks for “The Twelfth Five-year Plan” of Liaoning Province, 8 provincial classic textbooks. LNUTCM is the base for Practical Techniques Test and Examiner Training of National Physician Qualification Exam (the category of TCM), also the authorized National SP Teaching Demonstrating Base and it is the base for National TCM Practitioner Certification Examination. LNUTCM is also the national training base for TCM-Specialized English. LNUTCM has established its unique educational characteristics, strong in cultivating practical, inherited, innovational and extroverted talents.
LNUTCM has 2 National TCM Masters, 2 National famous expert of TCM, 1 member of Discipline Review Group of State Council, 1 “973 Plan” chief scientist, 2 national outstanding teacher, 2 national outstanding TCM teacher, 2 Qihuang scholars of national Chinese medicine leading talents support program, 61 experts who receive special national government allowances, 57 national veteran TCM experts as mentors training talents for the succession of TCM expertise, 5 middle-aged and young experts awarded by Ministry of Public Health for their outstanding contributions, 1 winner of “ National 100 outstanding teachers of ‘two courses’ in colleges and universities” and 1winner of “Qihuang Inheritance and Development of Chinese Medicine” prize .And also there are 55 national outstanding TCM clinical talents, 8 provincial TCM Masters, 75 provincial famous TCM doctors, 2 provincial climbing scholars, 1 candidate of Academician of Liaoning province, 2 provincial leading talents, 11 provincial distinguished professors, 11 provincial excellent experts in LNUTCM .Among the faculty ,the number of the teachers who are selected as special professors of the construction project of the High-end Talent Team of Colleges and Universities in Liaoning province sums to 14, and 20 are Famous Teacher in Liaoning province.
In “Liaoning rejuvenation talent , high-level personnel training support plan”, 2 are selected in innovative talents of science and technology, 4 as Liaoning specially-appointed professors, and 2 top young talents, 1 innovation team is selected into “ Liaoning rejuvenation talent , high-level innovation and entrepreneurship team training and introduction plan” ,1 “Huang Danian type teachers team” in Liaoning colleges and universities, and 42 in the Hundred class and 84 in the Thousand class of the provincial project of “Hundred, Thousand, Ten Thousand Talents”.
LNUTCM has 1 national and provincial joint engineering lab, 1 key lab sponsored by the Ministry of Education, 1 national-level TCM clinical research base, 3 national-level clinical pharmacology bases, 3 key research centers appointed by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 11 Grade III research labs appointed by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 1 national popular science base, 1 provincial humanity and social science research base, 29 provincial key labs and engineering centers, 1 provincial major scientific and technological platform,2 provincial research centers for clinical medicine and it is provincial Association of University-Enterprise for Traditional Chinese Medicine Industry, the service base of Transformation of scientific and technological achievements approved by Liaoning Society and Technology Association, the Branch Center of National Databases and Retrieval System of TCM Literature. Since the period of “The Twelfth Five-year Plan”, LNUTCM has undertaken 661 recent research projects, including 66 national-level projects and 271 provincial projects; and published 10910 academic papers and 263 academic books. The university also hosts three academic journals of TCM. Chinese Archives of Traditional Chinese Medicine is Chinese core periodical and Chinese core science and technology periodical, and Liaoning Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Journal of LNUTCM are Chinese core science and technology periodicals. In the Chinese medicine science and technology periodical classification catalogue, Chinese Archives of Traditional Chinese Medicine ranks in T1, and Liaoning Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Journal of LNUTCM in T2.
LNUTCM is also one of the Chinese universities which are first authorized to recruit international students as well as students from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. It is among the first batch of National TCM Service Export Base. It is the international cooperation base of TCM between China-Thailand and China-Central Eastern European countries. n LNUTCM has established the Confucius Classroom of TCM in Slovakia Medical University . It has jointly operated education program in Nursing at the undergraduate level with Ara Institute of Canterbury, New Zealand.
LNUTCM is eligible to take international students with scholarship awarded by the Chinese government, Confucius Institute Scholarship as well as PHD scholarship awarded by Liaoning province. It ranks among the first universities who undertake the "Silk Road" Chinese government scholarship project. It is the university which enrolls Hong Kong exam-exempted students, Macao recommended students and students from Taiwan. Based in Asia, aiming Europe and the United States, exploring Africa, looking around the world, LNUTCM has carried out extensive international exchanges and cooperation, successively establishing cooperation with universities, medical institutions and academic organizations in 35 countries and regions such as South Korea, Singapore, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Thailand, Australia, South Africa, Slovakia, etc. and signed about 80 cooperation agreements. The university has been engaged in various forms of international academic, medical and educational cooperation, and hosted international conferences and meetings many times.
The four affiliated hospitals of LNUTCM are respectively named Liaoning Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Liaoning Traditional Chinese Medicine Research Institute, Liaoning Coloproctological Hospital and Liaoning Integrated TCM and Western Medicine Hospital. There are altogether 11 key clinical specialties appointed by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 7 national TCM spacialized clinic centres, 21 key clinical specialties appointed by the Ministry of Public Health and 43 provincial key clinical specialties. LNUTCM also has 6 indirectly affiliated hospitals and 98 bases for clinical teaching and practicing.
To enrich the connotation of healthy campus, LNUTCM has been dedicated to the construction of the humanities campus, conservation-oriented campus, safe campus and smart campus. The university has specified the norms, standards and processes for service system; built a “three-in-one” system for prevention and control of security problems; covered Shenyang, Dalian and Benxi campuses with advanced and high-performance network infrastructure; possessing an efficient and secure data center based on cloud computing; and constructed a high-level information resources management system with network and mobile access to literature, information and consultation.
Entering the new era, LNUTCM will continue pursuing new development while seizing opportunities. With the guidance of “Inheriting the essence, and keeping innovation” spirit put forward by President Xi Jinping, LNUTCM will adhere to the socialist orientation and the fundamental task of “strengthening moral education and cultivating people”.
